Through painting, In Favour of Rhythm explores the decorative impulse. How it is something we innately learn, like language. The decorative impulse makes a poetic kind of visual language; it contains a rhythm that is ‘unfettered and irreducible to its intelligible verbal translation.’ Helping us to make sense of our exterior and interior worlds, by recognising colour, pattern, form and shapes.
‘In Favour of Rhythm showed at Conners Conners Gallery in Fitzory, Melbourne. The exhibition text, Like Nectar, written by Emma Nixon can be read here
